Red Racer Snail (Vittina waigiensis)
The Red Racer Snail is a striking freshwater invertebrate prized by aquarists for both its beauty and usefulness. Native to Southeast Asia, this snail is named for the vibrant red and orange streaks or zigzag patterns that decorate its shell, giving it the appearance of a tiny, speeding racer.
Red Racer Snails are excellent algae grazers, helping keep aquarium glass, rocks, and decorations clean without harming plants. Unlike some other snail species, they cannot reproduce in freshwater, making them a worry-free addition that won’t overpopulate your tank.
These snails thrive in stable, well-oxygenated aquariums with a gentle to moderate current. They prefer pH-neutral to slightly alkaline water and do best in community tanks with peaceful fish and invertebrates.
